Chocolate Chip Cookies

Dress these up for a holiday by substituting colored M&Ms for half of the chocolate chips.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups oatmeal, ground in the food processor until fine
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 12-ounce package semisweet chocolate morsels
  • 1 3/4 cups chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375 F.

2. Grease two cookie sheets.

3. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla.

4. Add the flour, oatmeal, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix until blended. Stir in the chocolate and nuts.

5. Break off tablespoons of dough and roll between the palms of your hands into small balls. Place on cookie sheets, 2 inches apart, and bake for 10 to 13 minutes, until edges are brown and bottoms set. (Do not let tops brown or they will dry out.) Transfer to a wire rack and cool.
